From families across Sarawak
Roslan bin Mahmud
Kuching, Sarawak
My father retired from the Sarawak civil service in 2018 and we had a bag full of papers but no idea what we actually needed. After one session with Anjung Rekod, we had a clear list — what we had, what appeared to be missing, and where to request each item. The meeting was in Bahasa Malaysia which made things much easier for my father to follow.

Lim Hui Shan
Miri, Sarawak
I am based in Miri and my mother lives in Kuching. Using the courier arrangement worked smoothly — documents went off on a Monday and were back by Thursday with everything scanned. The video session was clear. What I valued most was that we were told exactly what we could and could not expect from Anjung Rekod, and nothing was oversold.

Peter Anak Apang
Sibu, Sarawak
The session was held in Iban, which meant my mother could speak freely and ask things she would not have asked in another language. The person from Anjung Rekod was patient and did not rush. We came away knowing which documents we still needed and which office to write to for each one. The written summary made it easier to explain things to my siblings.

Salmah binti Taib
Bintulu, Sarawak
My husband worked in both the Sarawak state service and later in private employment. We were confused about which records were held where. Anjung Rekod explained clearly which documents came from which office and which system applied to each employment period. It was the first time anyone had laid this out for us in plain language.

Chan Kok Leong
Kuching, Sarawak
We used the Whole-Family Archive Programme for my parents and my father-in-law. Three people, records going back many years, some in Mandarin, some in English. The three online briefings meant my sister in Kuala Lumpur could join the same session as us. The handover pack at the end was very useful — it explained clearly where every original is kept.

Norashikin binti Jaafar
Kuching, Sarawak
My mother was nervous about handing over original documents to anyone. Anjung Rekod explained the courier process carefully before we agreed to anything — how originals would be insured, how long scanning would take, and when everything would come back. That patience made a real difference. She felt comfortable throughout.

02 — Case Studies
Three situations, in more detail
These case summaries describe the situation, the service used, and the outcome. Names and identifying details have been changed.
Challenge
A retired schoolteacher, records from two eras
A retired teacher from the Sarawak state education service had records from before and after a significant administrative change. The family could not work out which documents applied to which period, and one critical employment letter appeared to be missing.
Service Used
Records Review Meeting
A ninety-minute session in Kuching, held in Bahasa Malaysia. Documents from both employment periods reviewed and separated. Each document identified by issuing authority and period of service.
Outcome
Written summary provided distinguishing the two employment periods. The missing employment letter was identified along with the office that holds that record. The family left with a list of three specific items to request and the published address for each.

Challenge
Three adult children in three towns, one parent's records
Siblings in Kuching, Sibu and Miri needed to consolidate their father's records but could not agree on where things were or who held which original. The family had not met in one place for several years.
Service Used
Whole-Family Archive Programme
Documents collected by courier from two towns and by home visit in Kuching. Three online briefing sessions with all siblings joining. Encrypted archive set up with access for all three.
Outcome
A complete printed index and encrypted digital archive covering forty-two documents. Closing handover pack prepared in English and Bahasa Malaysia. All originals returned. Each sibling has the same picture of what exists and where each original is kept.

Challenge
An upriver family, unable to travel to Kuching
A retired couple in Bintulu needed their documents reviewed but neither could easily make the journey to Kuching. Their daughter, who lives in Kuala Lumpur, was trying to help remotely without knowing what documents existed.
Service Used
Remote Paperwork Support
Courier arrangement from Bintulu (three working days each way). Three video sessions over three months, including one with the daughter in Kuala Lumpur joining by phone. Request letters prepared for the couple's signature.
Outcome
Five request letters prepared and signed by the clients. Monthly printed summaries sent by post. The daughter now has a shared tracking sheet and can follow the paperwork status from wherever she is.
